My home – new collage + DIY tip

Stilleben from a window in my apartment. It's been a couple of weeks since I made and added this little A3 collage to my growing collection of collages to decorate the walls in my home. Making collages is a great, easy and very cheap way to bring some color to your home, especially if you don't want your home to look like everyone else's.

If you like me, enjoy taking some time out and use your hands to create, it's a perfect DIY-project. All you need is some magazines and a big paper as a background – then make an overall color scheme of colors you like and match, cut out shapes and colors (avoid text and faces (unless you like a more sketchbook-moodboard'ish look) and create various shapes – use some time to place the cutouts until you like it – finally glue all the pieces together and onto the paper – put it in a frame and VOILA! The good thing about is, that if you get tired of your self-made "art-piece", you can always throw it away (since it didn't really cost you any money) – or maybe pass it on to someone who needs something for their walls as well. Madethought ten years

I absolutely love this different way of showcasing a portfolio, done by Madethought, who did this to celebrate their ten years anniversary. And their work is amazing! I already laid my eyes on these lovely pictures some years ago, but today when I came across them once again, I simply had to share. Friday Wishlist – for me

This friday wishlist consist of 3 different things that is on my personal wishlist at the moment and at least the two of the wishes are classic items that you keep for a long time. 

1. Been dreaming of this classic Prada Tote bag in black leather for some months now, it's a perfect clean-cut and simple, yet very elegant, bag that goes with almost everything. 

2. From danish jewelry brand Jane Kønig, I think the small love tag necklace in gold plated silver is such a cute idea, and a tag with the first letter in my boyfriends name along with a diamant pendant in one chain would be a perfect match.

3. The IT book by Alexa Chung – because the book cover is pink and because I think she's a pretty cool young lady

Details from my home office

I love personal home office spaces. My own home office is filled with a lot of stuff that I've organized in areas. The key to creating a personal space without having it to look too messy and chaotic, is to create some areas and spaces for your personal stuff, instead of spreading them all around the room. In my own office I've made a big black board where I hang some notes, magazine cut-outs and illustrations I make – kind of like a big moodboard – which easily can be changed as often as you wish, to create a different mood or color theme. (Try to select the things you hang on your board in the same color scheme – that way you'll create a coherency and calmness to the room, still showing your personal style)
As I have a lot of posters and frames and often change the pictures on my walls, I've gathered all (for the moment) unused frames, signs and paintings in one big stack up against the wall, so they make they're own atelier-ish look.
Another thing you can do is to hang up some small magazine cut-outs (or as me, my business cards and some pictures) in a small group with some colored tape, to make a nice little collage of things that might inspire you.

5 year anniversary

Today I'm celebration a 5 year anniversary. It's probably been one my longest relationships till this date. There's been ups and down's, in periods our relationship has been close and in others it hasn't been very consistent and have lacked both motivation and inspiration – a few times I've even considered leaving – end the relationship and start all over with someone new, fresh and more exciting. But I stayed, and I can't believe that 5 years has gone by so fast. Yes, today it's been exactly five years since I on the 2nd of april 2008 – as a twenty-one year old student – wrote my first post on this blog! Back then it was so exciting for me to have my own "channel" to the world and to be able to share my inspiration with strangers, and even though I had fallen for a lot of great blogs already back then, blogging wasn't as common and popular as it is today! Maybe, in five years from now, I will celebrate my 10 year anniversary with this blog! Who knows!

   

Mangoola invite by End of Work

It's been a while since I've posted anything graphic design related – but I came across this beautiful invite made for Mangoola Coal by Australian design studio "End of Work" and I simply find it so stunning! No more words needed!

Art and illustration on a budget

If you, like myself, like to have beautiful art and illustrations on your walls, you also know that it can be very pricy. I own a few originals and lithographs myself, but sometimes it's also nice to have something more temporary you can change if you want to, without the costs being too high. Not all artists or illustrators work is to be found as posters, but if you keep an eye on some of the small niche-magazines, you may stumble upon some great work. Just a few years ago I would never dream of cutting out pages in my magazines, but that's changed.

A few days ago I was looking at magazines in my favorite magazine-derpartment, and the new danish magazine Tomorrows Journal had a nice article with danish artist/fashion designer Anne Sofie Madsen, who also makes the most beautiful illustrations in nice colors. So when I saw that the article also featured some of her work (and even without text) I decided to buy the magazine to use the pages to hang on my walls. So the tip is hereby given to you.

The steps are really simple and all you need is a ruler, a knife and a frame!

Polyvore – a great tool for bloggers

I just discovered this site yesterday– Polyvore – and thought that it's a site worth sharing for all fellow bloggers out there. Personally I do most collages/photos in Photoshop, but I know that many find creating great collages and moodbards a bit more diffucult! And maybe I'll start using this site a bit more since my discovery!
Polyvore makes it easy for you to create collages with your favorite things – either you choose a template or you make your own – then you pick and drop the images you wish placed on the collage – either from a VERY big library connected to a lot of great designers in both fashion and interior – or by uploading images yourself. Click publish and you have a nice moodboard for your blog. You can also publish your moodboard directly to your blog which allow you to share the images/info and the text linked to the various items on your board.
(And no, this is not a sponsored post, I'm just very impressed by what a great tool I think it is! :) )

Sooo... To show you what I mean, I created this "moodboard" of what my own day looked like:

My moodboard is what I (more or less) looked like today and what I did.. 

I wore my new pair of Acne Clover Boots, 

a black A-skirt (with black tights since it's freeeezing), 

a black shirt (actually mine is with small white stars but I couldn't find it online anywhere), 

and a nice warm knit from Acne. Besides what I wore I had some lovely cups of lattes and last but 

not least I worked a lot (the computer)! 

    

DIAMOND POSTERS - SOON FOR SALE!

Not that it is very big news, but for me it is definetely something new, since I've decided to open my own small webshop. I've had a few people asking me if I sell some of the things I make, and well.. I've been wanting to do this for a while, so now's the time! My first product will be some simple but very decorative black/white Diamond Posters, but I'm working on a few other posters and cards as we speak!

Yesterday I went to my favorite printing house and had them run some test-prints of the Diamond Posters I've shown in an earlier post. While deciding which paper I want them printed on, I might as well show you the prints which I spent today framing in simple white frames, and then took some pictures from around my apartment.

Diamant pattern poster

A week ago I did this diamant shaped black/white pattern, and made a quick print of it. Thought I'd might as well show it, in a great mix of dogs, chairs and letters.

Magazine papercuts, 2xcollages

Just thought I'd show these 2 collages I did some time ago, with images and colors cut out of various magazines just like the last one I showed you. Again I love relaxing while making them and at the same time I get something decorative for my walls. These always hang as a pair.  

Illustration of the day

So far I've had one of those great saturdays, where you get to do a lot the things missed during the week, so today I cleaned the entire apartment, baked a delicious bananabread and took the time to draw a little something; I ended up drawing 3 pieces, 2 small colorful ones (I'll show them later on) and this A2 illustration with a simple pen on a grey piece of carton. It's not art, but to me it's kind of meditative to totally concentrate and take a break from all the thoughts flying around in my head, while doing these kind of things! I ended up liking the result, framed it in a white frame and the piece is now decorating a wall in my bedroom.

PINK and bake

Apparently the theme of today is pink, so why not go all the way!! I decided to take a break from work to clear my head for an hour or two and ended up baking "raspberry-chips" (what we in danish call hindbærsnitter! - something I wanted to do for my birthday, but never had time too) - and since I decided to make them all pretty and pink I thought I'd might as well take a picture - of both them and me (see - my lips are pink too!!) So, no, this is not turning into a food-blog, but today it's friday! Guess that's reason enough for me! (I've decided to give them away to friends and family so I don't end up eating all of it..)

Coffee shop + creative thing of the day

Today I had a meeting with a client, held at some of my friends new coffeshop "Kaf'bar 9" in Antonigade 9, Copenhagen. Lovely place, sweet guys and great coffee - you should definitely stop by! When the meeting was over, I stayed a bit to do some work and ended up writing their coffee menu at a mirror and this was the result. It isn't art or anything, but it feels good to sometimes step away from the computer and do some crafty things by hand. As a new years resolution I agreed with myself to do at least one creative/new thing a day, so I think this is the one creative thing for today (besides work of course)!
